The US military apparently felt this battle was necessary because the hill was so close to the Ho Chi Minh trail - through which North Vietnam sent supplies to the Viet Cong fighting in South Vietnam.
Studs Terkel pointed out that Americans know very little of their history. We cannot forget the Vietnam War. The policies of the Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon administrations lead to millions of Vietnamese being killed as well as 50,000 American soldiers being killed. This was a war which should never have been fought. I want to present a resource for those interested in this war. The Battle of Hamburger Hill - 1969 "Was it worth it?"
This was a battle for a hill near the border with Laos.
The US military apparently felt this battle was necessary because the hill was so close to the Ho Chi Minh trail - through which North Vietnam sent supplies to the Viet Cong fighting in South Vietnam.
